Rock for Kids Donation:

This holiday season, I’m donating half of all my CD and gift sales (see below) to the non-profit Rock for Kids - a group that provides year-round music education, support and inspiration to children in need. A great organization, founded here in Chicago. So if you don't have some of my music yet, this would be the time. Doesn't matter if you buy on CDBaby or iTunes - it's easy to do some good.

Holiday Gift Idea

(Update: If interested, let me know - I can deliver in time for Christmas)

In addition to my CDs available for sale, I’m offering something special this year: CD and Guitar Lesson gift packs. For $60 plus $6 S&H, you get 2 CDs, plus a gift certificate for a 1-hour guitar lesson all nicely packaged with a gift tag ready for giving. Check out the pics below – handsome!

Very cool, very easy, very thoughtful. Beats a gift card any day! I can even ship direct to your gift recipient. Any style of guitar, beginners to advanced – all welcome. Email me for details.

My Christmas Playlist :

In the interest of ful disclosure, I dug out my 2007 Christmas playlist and made a few changes. Not much though. No Sting CD from Starbucks. No Christmas compilations. No Taylor Swift.

Steve Earle - Christmastime in Washington
He's on his fifth wife and still hates the FCC and Lou Dobbs. But he loves Christmas, Aw.
The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
God help me - I love this song. British DJ Anne Nightingale would play this at the holidays on her Sunday night show. Great memories.

Chris Isaak - Hey Santa!
The mariachi horns on the chorus are what make this song.

James Brown - Santa Claus, Go Straight to the Ghetto
Mr Brown and Mr Claus - It's all about the "one"

Simon and Garfunkel - 7 O'Clock News/Silent Night
It's too much for any other time of the year. But everyone should listen to it once at Christmas. Really listen

Slade - Here It Is, Merry Christmas
A great British favorite. Makes you want to watch the Queen's Christmas Day, Morecambe and Wise re-runs, and break into the sherry.

Roy Wood & Wizard - I Wish It Could be Christmas Every Day
See above

The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York
Should you happen to be in the Celtic Crossings pub around 12:30am on Christmas morning, this is what will be playing. It may be difficult to hear over the sound of all the adult orphans crying in their beer about having no other place to go on Christmas Day.

The Kinks - Father Christmas, Thanksgiving day (Ray Davies)
Leave it to the Davies brothers to cut through the Christmas treacle with a zest of cynicism. I added Thanksgiving day because although it's the wrong holiday, the sentiment's the same and the Davies gets it just right.

Spinal Tap - Christmas With The Devil
This song goes to 11.

Joni Mitchell - River
Hailing from Winnipeg, a part of Canada where apparently all children are dipped in the musical equivalent of the river Styx, imbuing them with harmonic invincibility(See Neil Young) Beautiful song, but it's the altered piano chord at the end that just breaks your heart.

The Nest (Sound Design, 2009)

This is a 60-minute piece of music, in 5 movements, designed to accompany acupuncture treatments at The Nest Acupuncture center in Lincoln Square, Chicago. It's carefully designed to complement The Nest's brand and ultimately enhance the acupuncture experience. By incorporating external sounds such as the passing 'El' Brown Line train, we embrace the externalities rather than trying to block them out.

Financial Services Video (Sound Design, 2009)

This is a video soundtrack for a financial services firm. The style is rustic Americana, to be used in the style of a 'This American Life' documentary piece.

You can hear the full instrumental piece here, then compare it against the scored version in the video.
